While driving through my old stomping grounds in Springfield Township, Ohio today to meet my father for our usual mid-week lunch at our favorite Chinese place, I was aghast to see that the last of my old Ohio offices had finally been torn down.
This wasn’t just any old office — it was the one where most of the production of my first feature film, THE DEAD NEXT DOOR, was staged, circa 1986-1987. I couldn’t resist stopping to grab a quick photo of the now-empty lot on my iPhone today, similar to an old shot of the back entrance to the building from that era, which you can see side by side above — and that got some old memories coming back. Just heard the jolly good news that HOWARD THE DUCK is making its U.S. DVD debut on March 10 (click the link above to preorder from Amazon.com). The much-maligned George Lucas production has been a no-show on DVD for 11 long years! Read the rest of this entry »
Just a quick reminder that the Akron Screams! event is starting tonight at 7 pm, with a DEAD NEXT DOOR reunion on Saturday at 6:30 pm followed by a big-screen showing of the movie at 10 pm to wrap up the show. Akron Screams! is taking place at the Akron Civic Theatre in downtown Akron, 182 S. Main St.
I’ve been MIA for the last few weeks mostly due to an avalanche of freelance work, which includes editing some trailers for another distributor, but last weekend I had the good fortune of hitting Ken & Pam Kish’s excellent Cinema Wasteland convention in Strongsville, Ohio for the second October in a row. I’ve been a freelance kind of guy by trade since quitting the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in July, 1985 at the beginning of my second year. The stroke of luck that landed me with the deal for my first film, THE DEAD NEXT DOOR, has continued more or less for 23 years to varying degrees. Never rich but not quite poor, I’ve essentially accomplished what I set out to do more than two decades ago, which is to get by doing what I love. I never wanted to be famous and I never wanted to be rich. Ask and ye shall receive! 😉 Read the rest of this entry »
Quick update to let folks know that THE DEAD NEXT DOOR will be closing out the forthcoming Akron Screams! festival, where I will also be appearing as a guest (and Tempe will have a table pimping our goods, too).
Akron Screams is a 2-day event, October 31 and November 1, 2008 in downtown Akron, Ohio at the landmark Akron Civic Theatre. Movies, live bands and cool vendors… if that sounds like fun, then head over to the Akron Screams MySpace page for more information.
The Akron Civic is a great old theatre and an awesome place to see THE DEAD NEXT DOOR up on the big screen. Hope to see you there!

Looks like the fine folks at Anchor Bay Entertainment (er, Starz Home Entertainment) have dropped the retail price of THE DEAD NEXT DOOR from an already-low $14.99 to a mere $9.99 (as of Sept. 18)! Now there’s no excuse for the penny-pinchers among you to cough up some of your hard-earned bucks. Read the rest of this entry »
