About quackin’ time!

Just heard the jolly good news that HOWARD THE DUCK is making its U.S. DVD debut on March 10 (click the link above to preorder from Amazon.com). The much-maligned George Lucas production has been a no-show on DVD for 11 long years!

I was always a fan of the Marvel comic book as a kid, and despite the movie’s kinda-lame duck suit and poor casting for Beverly (don’t get me wrong, I love Lea Thompson but she wasn’t quite “built” for this role if you catch my drift), it’s remained a guilty pleasure. The movie opened in the summer of 1986 as I was in the height of making THE DEAD NEXT DOOR, so I have fond memories of it. It’s also the first film I recall seeing Tim Robbins in, and boy I bet he’s cringing knowing this baby is finally coming out!

Now I can finally retire my laserdisc copy and see the thing in its full widescreen glory again! The disc is branded as a Special Edition and will include six featurettes. Only complaint here is, why no simultaneous Blu-ray release? Damn Universal double-dipping!!

Why doesn’t Universal save themselves a lot of trouble and just mail the DVD over to your house?

This has to be a tax write-off for Universal.

And if that’s not bad enough, you can watch it right now for free on Hulu.com… is that a sign of the coming quackopalypse…? 😉
