Just a quick reminder that the Akron Screams! event is starting tonight at 7 pm, with a DEAD NEXT DOOR reunion on Saturday at 6:30 pm followed by a big-screen showing of the movie at 10 pm to wrap up the show. Akron Screams! is taking place at the Akron Civic Theatre in downtown Akron, 182 S. Main St.

See you there!

MySpace just posted a teaser of the FRIDAY THE 13TH rehash that’s coming (you guessed it) Friday, February 13, 2009. And it ain’t half bad, although really it just looks like a slicker, more expensive sequel than a complete “reimagining” (oh, how I hate that word!). They’re even sticking with a similar music score (at least for this teaser), although really, how could they top that classic theme?

Last year at this time, I first discovered the Archos 605 Wi-Fi Portable Media Player. As anyone who reads this blog probably realizes, I’m a bit of a gadget nut but most of my media-playing allegiance has gone to Apple’s iPod and iPhone. (I skipped the Apple TV originally because I’m more of a renter than a buyer these days, which has since been addressed. My living room still is without an Apple TV.)

Check out this comment (which I actually approved, mind you) from my last Rudy Ray Moore obit post:

Rudy Ray Moore is dead.

For those who aren’t in the know, Rudy Ray was a raunchy ’60s & ’70s-era comic (known as “king of the party records” back in his day) with a style more rude and explicit than his more-popular peers like Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor. Despite his cult status, he was featured more recently in popular rap tunes from Big Daddy Kane and 2 Live Crew.

Sort of.

Interesting bit by Gregory Katz in today’s Associated Press newswire about how former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr is refusing to sign autographs or even read fan mail after October 20.

I’ve been MIA for the last few weeks mostly due to an avalanche of freelance work, which includes editing some trailers for another distributor, but last weekend I had the good fortune of hitting Ken & Pam Kish’s excellent Cinema Wasteland convention in Strongsville, Ohio for the second October in a row.

Wait, isn’t Congress already full of zombies?

Well, in any event, check out this website launched by NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD co-creator John Russo and producer/star Russ Streiner. They asked to borrow some Washington, D.C. footage from my own THE DEAD NEXT DOOR and mixed it up with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD to create the parody video above.
